Coronavirus Update

Following advice from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York and on instruction from the Bishop of Manchester,      Fr Tom wishes to make the following statement:

“On Tuesday 10th March 2020 new advice was published from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. The advice states: It is our view, in light of the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, that it is now necessary to suspend the administration of the chalice as well as physical contact during the sharing of the peace, blessing or "laying on of hands.”

 From Wednesday 11th March and until further notice:

  • Holy Communion will be offered in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated Host, with Fr Tom alone taking the Precious Blood (wine);
  • handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the peace is suspended;
  • direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’ is suspended;
  • the use of Holy Water is suspended, and the stoops have been emptied
  • anointing with Holy Oil is suspended.

Sadly, we are awaiting advice concerning Holy Baptism

Mr Barry Dainty will be responsible for the supplying the ciboria with hosts and will use an alcohol-based (minimum 60%) hand-sanitiser in his preparation. Fr Tom, or a priest standing in for him, will do the same before administering the Host.

Alcohol-based (minimum 60%) hand-sanitisers will be available in church subject to availability.

Please consult the Church of England website for further information.”
